This holiday season, the credit union will be participating in the DC Holiday Pajama Drive.

The DC Holiday Pajama Drive was established in 2010 by District resident Kathleen Jackson. The drive aims to collect and donate new pajamas to children currently in the foster care system. Pajamas are being collected from all 50 states.

Please help us contribute to this great cause by donating a new pair of pajamas! All sizes are needed: newborn, infant, toddler, children, and adult sizes (XS-3XL). Socks, slippers, hats, and gloves are also appreciated.

Through Saturday, December 16th, donations will be accepted at all branch locations.

Keep reading to learn more about the founding of the DC Holiday Pajama Drive:

This will be the fourth year of the DC Holiday Pajama Drive. Kathleen Jackson got the idea while hospitalized at Johns Hopkins for Leukemia and a bone marrow transplant. During the 12 weeks that she was hospitalized, she could only wear pajamas. On a bad day, Kathleen would receive a package with new pajamas – a reminder that she was cared for and thought about. Kathleen promised herself, if she survived the Leukemia, she would pay it forward, in a big way. Furthermore, being the adoptive mom of three boys, Kathleen remembers when her children arrived at her home with no pajamas; like many other children placed in foster care. To make a difference in the lives of many children, Kathleen started the DC Holiday Pajama Drive.

Year one, Kathleen asked for 200 sets of pajamas and ended up with 386 sets of pajamas, each with either a pair of slippers or fuzzy socks.

Year two, the goal of 500 was well surpassed with over 600 sets of pajamas, along with slippers, fuzzy socks, hats, mitten, and gloves.

Year three, the goal of 1,000 sets was achieved with over 1,500 sets! Pajamas were also donated to children in homeless shelters.

This year, Kathleen has her sights set on another 1,000 sets of pajamas for children in need. The CBS evening news will be following the drive, and small businesses will also be offering drop off locations.
